Review of Book and Website-Free-Samples for Students-Myassignement

Question: You are required to read two Books Independently read two extended texts and write review about what you have read. Answer: Book chosen: Gullivers Travels in the land of Lilliputians This book is written by Jonathan Swift in the year 1726 which is an extremely controversial book. At the time of its publication, many of the parts of the book was deleted as it created rebels protesting against the existing systems colonialism was highly criticized under the colorful cover of humor and slapstick (Fung, 2017). Previously it was set aside as a book for the children with an attempt to depoliticize the different interpretations as well as the various camouflages that the book provided to give its view in colonial practice marinated at that time in England. It had only published as the complete book after ten years and reflected Swifts literary sixteen years in physical journey as well as in physical exploration. The book basically is a satire on human nature and can be included in the literary sub genre of parody of travelers tale. The main interesting point that the reader can find here is that although each and every phase suggested by the author seems immediately comprehensible but the whole substance matter of the book is endlessly complex. Swift has mainly tried to point out the different ideas that were followed by the colonization systems and debunks them through his offering of reversal of scales (Noleto et al., 2017). The points that he had tried to provide are interestingly written with great wit and slapstick humor. Some examples that can be provided here are the fight over the end of the egg, making water, concept of low heels and high heels. The first example is the fight of two countries like the Lilliput and the Blefuscu over a breaking of particular side of the egg. Through this he actually tried to indicate the century old conflict that had been present on the correct ay of practicing religion like the Catholics or Protestants. According to him, this fight although serious according to others was thought to be unimportant for him because he thought fighting over religion was as points as fighting over which end of the egg should be declared breakable. Another example was provided by him over the choosing of Tory party by low heels and that of the Whigs by the High heels (Goring, 2015). He had developed this concept to depict the political bickering that used to be a trend in that era which often created disturbances among ordinary citizens who did not wish to be a part of the system or did not care to participate in such difficulties of politics. Moreover, also selection of officials by making them jump on a tight rope to see how higher they can jump to be the officials were actually written to signify the funny way by which officials were chosen in /England. It also depicts the ways and the extent that the politicians were adopting to gain favor in th e court. This he described by stating that although serious jumping could make the Lilliputians travel to heaven they were still doing so to earn power. Gullivers urinating to extinguish fire also shows that in spite of Gullivers attempt to save people, he was sentenced to punishment stating that the society that time was more lenient to be look sophisticated than trying to save themselves from shackles of the difficult society and feared to break free (Fantus, Pollack Norton, 2014). The book effectively succeeds in manipulating the scales in order to show the politics of representation and purposely help in bringing forth the comfortless and disturbing satire. Review of the Website: Website chosen is Netflix Netflix has come into business since the year 1997 and has been treat to movie lovers as well as those who love to catch daily soaps as well as entertainment programs. They have also actively maintained their websites as these had been the main gateway of capturing audiences and the target citizens. However they have kept the website background very trendy with a black coloration that gains the attraction of the target audience of adolescents and young audiences (Jenner, 2016). Recently they are also providing a one month free subscription period allowing new audiences to have a gala time before they would be asked for subscription. However, blocking audiences at the very first site when a new individual opens up the site provides a negative feedback as human psychology tends to develop a negative feeling when the first sequence of an interaction gets inhibited. They should have allowed the new entrant to venture their site before joining for a one month subscription so that the entr ant may understand what he is subscribing for or where he is getting engaged to. The first impression where one does not know what kind of experience he would gain provides a lack of research by the Netflix team in the mentality of the viewers (Eisenberg et al., 2015) . Secondly, they also force the viewers to open accounts with them making them adopt three different types of subscription plan. It results in developing a very negative view of the website by the new person as they seem money minded more than assuring a wonderful experience by a first timer on their website. However there are many good features like the website is capable for selecting shows according to the preferences and search history of their account holders and thereby provides list to them making them happier that Netflix is caring for their choices (Alex, Feils Disbrow, 2014). As a result it leads to the customer satisfaction making the audience more committed to the website. However the website takes a longe r time to add new sessions which can be bit distressing among the altogether good experience. Recently the website is receiving complaints about a number of discrepancies that it had involved in the practice (Ferguson, 2014). They have removed the area of customer rating section which can guide other customer in gaining insight about a particular show. This had been complained by many viewers. Recently the website have also launched some of their own entertainment programs which are indeed a good initiative but the website is no longer giving the scope of watching many favorite shows of a large number of viewers . Hence, a mixed reaction had risen. However, the website needs to be more user friendly and rather of less profit making mentality to attract more consumers in the future.
